Default 454 radiators

During my swap from a 350 to 454, I noticed a difference in the radiators. I just received my 454 radiator and it does not have a place to put a radiator cap! My old radiator had a neck and cap on the passenger side. Is this correct? Does this mean I have to connect an expansion tank? How do I fill the radiator? Any help and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I bought and sold a '64 Ford Galaxie with a 390 some time back -- it had a leaky exp. tank - I called Summit and got on inline tee with a cap on the top. Not correct and something you may want to change -- but should be quick and easy to get some fluid in and get on the road.

good luck

My big block radiator has no cap. I do have the expansion tank with a cap. I fill my system by removing the thermostat and pouring down into the block. I top off the system by filling through the expansion tank. Hope this helps.

What year? The 73 and 74's with 454's had filler necks with a cap.

Thanks guys for the info. Sorry, I have a '72. I guess I better start looking for an expansion tank.

There are two expansion tanks... One for non-A/C and the other for A/C cars.

Becool makes a radiator rated upto 700 HP that only works using the small block radiator support , and has a filler neck. :steering:
