Default Mystery sending unit

While working on my starter in my 73 350, I noticed a sending unit above it in the engine. It reminded me of a late model oil sending unit. It has two posts and no wires to it or near it. I could not find any trace of it in my manuals. I have the factory mechanical oil gauge, still works.

Is it supposed to be there or could it be a old test item from a previous repair? Thanks.

Jon

Sounds like someone screwed a nock sensor in there to plug up a hole. I could be wrong but I dont think anything belongs there.

What you probably found is the tem sender unit for the TCS [transmission spark control] system. First type of semi smog control along with the AIR system. Thad
