Question for those using a chrome timing cover
Did the timing cover you bought come with a metal strip (or any kind) with timing marks?
Mine didn't. What is the best way to create some kind of index?

My timing cover didn't come with the indicator attached. It had an indicator that is bolted on with the cover. This works well with the stock damper but when I went to the Proform cover I had to ditch the chrome pointer because it covered the numbers on the damper cover. i went with a Tavia adjustable pointer. This is just a pointer without any timing marks so you have to read the timing from the damper cover. It works great when you're setting up an ignition curve and looks nice too. I believe you can get regular chrome timing indicators from Mr. Gasket or Summit. Take a look at my sig pic. i think you can see the cover and pointer. Good luck.

Be sure you're at TDC of compression when you align your tab and balancer. I had some that were off. I just did this on one of our engines and had the heads off, which made it real easy but not neccessary.
