Differential yokes

Re: Differential yokes (vette321)
No, they cannot be pulled without separating the pumpkin from the rear cover. They are held in with c-clips on the splined shaft of the yoke. This will likely turn into a "while I'm In there" project :D

Re: Differential yokes (vette321)
The yokes are retained by snap rings. One per side. The differetial must be out of the car to remove them. Also... there should be no preceiveable in-out movement of the yoke.

Sorry to say the answer to your question is NO.
At least for all practical purposes, it's no.
There are lock rings at the inner ends of the yokes that hold them in place (as long as the yokes aren't worn to the point that the lock ring has fallen off and gotten eaten up by the gears -- like mine did  ).
I suppose you could remove the diff cover, but there really wouldn't be anything holding the diff in place. The diff cover is part of the rear support structure of the car (between the rear spring & the upper crossmember).
It may be easier to remove the diff "pumpkin" and leave the cover in place.

Re: Differential yokes (vette321)
It is possible. I did it a week ago. You have to remove the rear end cover. Put a jack stand under the differential and then take off the rear crossmember and rear end cover. There is a single snap ring holding the yoke in. Invest in a pair of snap ring pliers and it will make the job alot easier.
