Sorry but I keep seeing people ask for carfaxs on cars you can't pull them on and thought to myself 'What would George say?' :)

carfax itself is rotted out junk..

Mine came out of it w/ a clean sheet and I IKNOW for a fact it's been stolen, been to a chop shop & restamped, wrecked and who knows what else....

Their records suck. On both my vette & truck only got 1 or 2 very old records.. very weird.

Carfax information is compiled from shops and DMV's that "subscribe" to the service. I had a vehicle repaired at an independent body shop and asked if the incident would be listed in the Carfax database. Reply was that none of his repairs are recorded in any but his own database and this is a quality shop that handles some of the local dealer's overflow. Carfax might be good for title change history and liens but not for total confidence concerning vehicle repair and condition.

I knew about all the problems before I bought the car, and I bought it cheap just for a project.. never intended to buy a good car and chop it up. I just checked w/ carfax to see if some of the history was listed.. it was not LOL :D

Carfax is still better than nothing. Especially when the dealer does for free.

But a good pair of eyes, a mat to lay on while you look under the car, and a thorough test drive are the best judges in my opinion... :yesnod:
