Cut hole in hood for Carb? need advice!!!
Since i switched over to a carbureted 383 of course the hood clearance is a problem. My question is this...Has anyone just cut a 4-5" hole in the hood and mounted something like an airhorn or maybe the edelbrock triangle on their carb? I would like to keep this intake manifold, its a polsihed rpm air gap but when i shut the hood the car dies...I know the rain will wreak havoc, just wondering if anyone has dealt with this...Thanks

i use to run a open element air filter out of the hood on my 327 on my 76,and one night i forgot to cover it ,we had a whole lot of rain that night and she was locked up tight, had to pull plugs and let it drain.

:nono: I installed a new intake and carb and had a very simular problem the stock duel air cleaner just is to hi. So not wanting to cut or modify my hood I looked around... came up with drop lower cover and installed k&ns lowest filter for the side and their cover for on top. Cut the carb srew hold down and it has a paper thin distance between carb hold down nut and hood. Really please with it and also it gets plenty of air. Go to web sight for K&N and look up what you want as far as size and then ask local dealer to get it for you.

Summit sells drop bases all the way down to 3 inchs I think. I just put their 13x4 7/8 drop on my vette and it looks good. It cost me about 85 bucks or so, but it was the compelete kit, k&n filter, base and cover.

Dont do it I have a 383 with a air gap and a 750 with a stock hood All you need is a drop base air cleaner with a 2 1/2 filter. It dont even rub the hood.

I have a Victor Jr. intake and a 7/8 inch drop base 3 inch element, I then put a 1/2 inch nitrous plate under the carb and still have an inch hood clearance. :yesnod:
