Default Opinions needed one more time

Ok guys and gals, I need your opinion one more time. Although I've been looking for a 70, 71 I have found a 73 coupe that is in excellent condition and mostly all original, and matching numbers. It had always been well maintained and has 78,000 miles, ps,pb,pw,tilt steering, auto tranny 400. It has won a couple of local shows. The paint is excellent, the interior is near perfect condition, all gauges work, even the clock, original AM/FM radio. The door panls, carpet, exhaust system and a complete new a/c system are the only item that has been changed. Under the hood it looks new, has been detailed to NCRS specs. and rust free bird cage and frame. All original suspension components and rearend. What is your opinion of a realistic value.

Thanks

I think low to mid teens would be reasonable. This one sounds like it's in exceptional shape. I dunno, maybe it's worth more, but I'd start from there. There's a '73 coupe here in Denver for $7800 bucks. But condition unknown.

You did not say which engine, so will assume the L48. VETTE magazine price guide of May 03 shows for a #2 condition (Fully restored, with minor wear) a value of $14,000 or a #3 condition (Partially restored or good original) of $11,000. If it is an L82 add $1500.

NADA (www.nadaguides.com) show a low retail of $8,550, average retail of $15,350, and a high retail of $19,300.

To me the car sounds very nice. What are they asking?

Yes, it the base L-48. Asking price is mid teens. I just want to make sure that I'm not paying to much for it, cause that all I have and more then I was looking to spend in the first place.

The Clock works. But it fast, theres now telling how long it has left.

I think theres a lot of people that want a 73, the chrome rear bumper, front rubber, makes it a little more rare than any other year.

To be accurate about the description, the owner did say that it works but is sometimes intermittent, but every other one that I have inquired about before said the clock did not work at all, just thought that was I good omen. :D

My wife likes he 73s, she does not care much about the chrome bumps, which I like, guess this could be a compromise, she gets the front with no chrome, and I get the rear with chrome.
:jester

She also like the fact it automatic so she can drive it. Still like to know that it's not over priced.

Hummm, mid teens.....from your description I would say it sounds like a good deal in the low-mid teens. I bought my 47,000 mile big block for mid-teens, but that was about four years ago. I do like the way these old cars go up in value every year :D I think you would be okay in the mid-mid teens :) but would try my best for the low-mid teens. Then again I am a bit of a nut when it comes to a '73

Actually a few weeks ago someone had a poll of what year vette everyone in the C-3 section owns, and if I remember correctly the 73 came in second place.

Well, I think I'm going to get it. I will call the guy to night and try to close the deal. He came down to 15k from his original asking price and that was as low as he would go. I'll post some pics if I get it.

Hope I'm not too late.

I looked at a 73 here for 10k but it needed paint and didn't have ac (but it was a 4spd). I thought it was worth it.

Check the suspension. That got really expensive fast for me (springs and bushings, shocks). Check the frame, since you are in Houston. Also, make sure that the car didn't flood a couple years ago...

So if you add 2-5k for paint + 1k for ac -1k for 4spd, you are probably ok.

I think it might be a little high, but I'm "frugal".

However, since the car is in good enough condition that it has won awards, its probably better than I am imagining. For $15k, you shouldn't have to do anything other than buy a new air freshener and maybe change the oil.

Did not mean to miss lead, the vet is in Tennessee, not Houston. I know what you mean though about flooding, alot of car came on the market here after the floods. Older vets are hard to fine around here and the ones I have found, the price was more then I could or would pay.

The suspension is all original, so may have to do some work later on down the road, but I was told that it still tight right now. I have no reason to disbelive the condition, I have spoke to the owner several time and "seems" like a square dealing guy to me. Pics he sent, exterior, interior, engine, frame all look a decibed.
