Are you talking about the numbers stamped on the key "knock out"? If so that is a code for cutting the key and is made up of a number, a letter, and two numbers. Have no idea what the code itself would be but would think that a very good locksmith would have access to those codes.

In addition to what Tom has said, there is also a "keyway" letter, not number stamped into each square and round key. This letter refers to the keyway size/position. You'll hear people refer to an "A" key, "H" key, etc. I don't have a 72 NCRS JG with me, but if this is the code you want, I can look it up for you. Chuck

Chuck,

those 'keyway' codes are what I'm referring to. I'd appreciate it if you could look them up.

Thanks!

I looked at those last night for the '73 (sorry but don't have the Judging Guide for 72) and believe that it was "H" for 73. I will see what I can find for 72 if Chuck cannot come up with it, but bet he can :D

This is what is stamped into the keys I had made for my 73 a couple of years ago:
Round key = H
Square key = E

Yes, the round head has a different "key way" then the square head. That code defines the key way.

According to the NCRS JG for 72, the correct keys are "C" for the square key and "D" for the round key. The "D" key also fits the alarm, as well as the spare tire lock.

There is also a correct orientation for the letter. To quote the NCRS JG, "The letter is right side up with the point of the key facing you and the notches to your right. Replacements sometimes have the letter oriented differently". Chuck
