Fuel Additive
This is Mark's son Steve. My dad recently passed away unexpectedly and I have been left his 69 Vette. I need some advice on what he added to the fuel of his car. If someone could let me know what is used for this it would be great. Thanks

If your planning on keeping your Dad's 69, then this is a great place to hang out.
Your Corvette should run just fine on pump gas, Unless the motor has been hopped up. You can try the regular unleaded to see if it pings. If so, then try the higher grades.
Your Dad's profile doesn't have any info, So you will have to fill us in on what you know about your Corvette.

Hi, Steve. Sorry to hear about your loss.
If the car is a small block, you can probably run it on about anything. Some owners of cars that were built to run on leaded gas worry about valve seat recession with unleaded, but my understanding is unless you drive it very hard that shouldn't be a problem. If it worries you, you can buy lead substitute.
If it's a big block, it could be pretty picky about fuel. I woudn't run anything in a BB except the highest grade you can find. If you still get pinging, try some of the "real lead" type additives.

Personally, I would go with premium gas (91 or better), provided it has the original engine (or similar replacement). I wouldn't bother with any additives unless you will be giving the engine some serious performance use. In that case, a little lead additive may be helpful. Octane boost additives are not required and are considered by many (including me) to be "snake oil". Running premium will allow you to optimize the timing for performance (running more advance than stock) without harmful detonation (pinging). Cheers Steve....and again, sorry for your loss.

It talks about fule additives. I use the LS-130. Its real TEL additive, not the fake crap.

Hi Steve,
Sorry about your dad.
I had my car for years and I use the highest octane pump gas I can find 93 or 94 and the fact of the matter is that the car runs fine on either.
