What horsepower and ET should I have?
Hello,
I just rebuilt my motor but haven't put it back in my car yet. I just wanted to know what kind of power my new combo will have.
My new motor consists of:
350ci
10:1 or 10.25:1 compression
Sportsman II heads- 2.02valves, 200cc intake runners, 64cc chambers
Comp cams XE268-Adv. Dur. 268/280, @.050" 224/230, Lift .477"/.480", LSA 110
Comp Roller Tip rockers 1.52"
Performer RPM Q-Jet manifold
rebuilt 750cfm Q-jet ( 650cfm Speed Demon will be added later)
1 5/8" long tube headers
2.5" pipes with 40 series "original" Flowmasters
I have 3:55s in the rear and a (2.64 1st) wide ratio Super T-10 tranny. I am hoping this combo will make about 380hp, 420ftlbs of torque, and be a mid-low 13s set up. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or comments on how to make my car faster or will this set up do the trick?
Thanks,
Kevin

I have a similar setup, got almost 300RWHP, tuner says there is more in it so I am taking it back to him soon. I am also putting on a 125HP nitrous kit that should give me a good kick in the pants :D

Your largest problem will be traction...it always is. There are two ways of improving performance: American -- more hp/torque and European -- less weight. Corvettes are fat-bodies, so if you want to reduce your ETs, reduce your weight.

I agree with Aaron360; mid/high-13s, at best.
I have a similar motor in my '79 Z28: 10.3:1 355, Dart II iron heads, 'on-sale' headers, 292H, Victor Jr & 750 dbl-pump (possibly better than yours?), THM400 w/ 2.75:1 low-gear, 'on-sale' 10" converter, 4.10s with 26" x 8" sticky street tires.
Weighing 3800+ with driver, running open-headers & shifting @ 6000, the best it ran was 13.10 @ 106 in perfect conditions (October), at a excellent facility (Maple Grove).
I believe the Z28 has better intake/carb (comparable on the cam) than your L82, exhaust (open-headers vs. 2.5"/Flowmasters), more torque multiplication in the transmission (2.75 vs. 2.64), and the rear (4.10 vs. 3.55), and better tires (I see no specs on your tires).
I suspect to run TRUE (day-in and day-out) mid-13s, you'd need a little better intake/carb for more top-end, more gear (4.10s, or even 4.56s with a stick), and sticky tires to optimize your ET.
I could be wrong; ex-brother-in-law had a '66 Vette, w/ a 'junk' (his words) 355", #151 cam, headers & 'calf-burners', 4-speed, and 3.36s. On the same tires as I, he ran 13.30s @c 108 with very little tuning.....

Thanks for all the info. Although mid-high 13s wasn't what I was hoping for its still alot better then when the car was set up with the stock motor and exhaust. I don't really want to change my gears right now because I want to drive on the highway still. I don't even think i will race the car, it will just be a nice street machine. As for horsepower, if tuned correctly could this motor make close to 300hp at the wheels?

I noticed that you have dynomax race bullets. How do you like them? I was thinking of getting those instead of flowmasters but i never heard them before so I didn't get them.

low to mid 13's...
If you would go with a more radical cam - 12's seem possible...

If I do go racing I will have to get drag radials or ET streets. What is the biggest size tire I can fit without using outset Trailing arms or removing the parking brake cable bracket? Next time I do a rebuild I will go with a more radial cam, victor Jr., and Demon Carb. I was going to change my 3.55s for some 3.90s but decided against it. I kinda of wish I did the switch.
Corz: We've met before but I wasn't on the forum at the time, I'll IM you.
Thanks
Kevin

L-82kid:
in your 'current' form (as originally described), I doubt you'd need ET-Streets or BFG DRs; a pair of 'American Racer' (formerly 'McCreary') tires may work well.
I ran G60x15 (approx 26" tall x 8" tread) on 8" wheels on my Z28 (if you have the 8" aluminum 'N90' wheels) to run 13-teens. A buddy ran 12-teens on the same tire.
The 'A-R' tire also comes in L60x15 (28" x 10"), too, if they fit. Both 'bite' very well, and may be less $$$ than the other tires you mentioned.
If you can't find them, they used to be made @ 'Elias Tire', in Indiana, Pa.
The 26" tire will help your 'gear-ratio problem', too.....

They're umm...LOUD. Louder than the SLP LoudMoths on the new LS-1 motors. They make those seem like stock mufflers.. :reddevil
