Default timing for 350

I have a 1972, stock 350. What should the timing be set at?

You should have a sticker right above your brake booster by the firewall with that information along with the dwell gap & spark plug gap.. If it is gone it should be 8 degrees BTC.

Timing needs to be set with vacuum advance line disconnected from the distributor and plugged with engine at idle of around 650RPM. Set it to at least 8º BTDC. You can go more like around 16º if you wish...all depends on what she likes. For example the 73 base 350 requires 12º. The points Dwell should be set to between 29 and 31. I used to set all my points by feel and later tested it with a dwell meter and it was right on. Basically the points should just barely seperate from each other by about .035" or about the thickness of a matchbook cover. Interestingly enough this is the exact same gap as the spark plugs, so I use a feeler gauge and measure the point gap the same as I do the spark plug gap.
