I drove a Z06 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the use of a Z06 for about an hour.
You can't describe, the awesome performance & handling of this Corvette.
Idling along, 1st gear, with good traction surface, then mash the throttle.
MAN !!! what a rush.
If you launch a least bit hard, you just get smoke.
You can get to 160 mph in seconds.
If you ever get a chance to take one for a drive or get a drive in one, do it.

I agree great car. I really enjoyed the seat time behind the wheel of an '02 Z06. I think I'm going to hold out for the C6 Z06 (or whatever they name the performance model)

At times I wish I could drive one of the C-5's just see how advanced they are, but it's probably best just to wave at them and not get the bug. The newest vette I've driven is a '93 vert.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and actually got to drive it hard enough to experience the car for real.

Now im not bragging and my 73 is far from pristine but it runs pretty good. Its definatly not the fastest car around. But when I went to the all vette drags races back in June, out of 9 total runs the only other vette that beat me to the finish that day was a Z06. And he wooped me pretty good. He went 12.77 to my 13.52.

yep, those are pretty powerful and fun to drive a 6 speed. I made the mistake of driving my buddy's c5 and now I own one along w/ my '82. The difference in the cars is incredible, but I still love driving the c3 cause it has so much style and gets way more looks from people on the street.

The Z is my daily driver. After 30,000 miles, the grin is if anything, BIGGER! I can't tell you how much I look forward to every on or off ramp, especially when no one else is ahead of me.
I think the engine is very close to the rwhp of a '66 427/425hp. That 427 was very conservatively rated, the 425hp would be closer to the net rating instead of gross. For the Z, all that power out of an all aluminum 346cid engine coupled to 6 gears. The handling and the braking double the fun.
The Z is the first truly high performance affordable* factory Corvette offered in 3 decades! They really did it right!
Chuck
* The ZR1's had a relatively huge price premium above the standard Vettes of its day. But it was virtually equal to the Z's regarding performance and thrill!

It was still a blast to get to drive that machine, Chuck. It's something else. Thanks again.

Nice catch. Actually, I just haven't gotten a good pic of both Vettes together since I installed the new engine combo just recently. The '69 now sports an L88 hood.

I got the privilege of test driving the Z06 prototype back in '00 while I was a durability test driver out at the GM DPG. Truly mind blowing. I had
never driven anything that quick before. If it's handling had not been so solid I would have been nervous. Now those cars make 20 more horse than
the one I drove!! Crazy! All I can say is that I got paid to spend 40 hours driving that car doing high speeds on the circular track and W.O.T. 0-80's
on the straight-away. No fuel bills, no repair bills, no insurance bill, and NO SPEEDING TICKETS! GOD I miss that job, lol! Well, actually I don't
miss the hundreds of hours I spent in Saturn SLs, but hey, no pain no gaining a week in the Z06.

Re: I drove a Z06 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Barry's70LT1)
I can appreciate the 400hp, traction control, decent gas mileage, and electronics up the wazoo, but I like my '69 not for its performance potential (it has very little right now, BTW) but rather the styling is so out there, that people can't help but gawk. It is a really insane looking car and no one that sees one can immediately forget it. It really bummed me out when Chevrolet flattened the swooping high fenders. The so-called "Coke bottle" shape. WTF were they thinking? Oh well, I guess they were thinking we got to sell more cars, and more of their potential customers must have wanted something tame looking...

I have to agree with all that was said above. I own both ... I love driving both of them. But ... nothing grabs the attention of the people than the 72 with the top up or down. Both vehicles are unique in their own way.
