Van Steel Front Monospring conversion?
Just wondering if I should actually do this.. VanSteel says its fully adjustable.. but is that ride hieght adjustable or stiffness adjustable or both?
Im very interested in this kit, but I havent had much luck with the forum search function (big shocker)
What I'm looking for is something that the ride hieght is adjustable because I plan on shaving a lot of weight out of the front end and the coil springs from VB&P arent cutting it.. (even when I did cut them)
if the stiffness is adjustable as well, that would be perfect

They are stiffness and height adjustable.
The height is adjusted just like the rear springs, the stiffness is adjusted with a screw to I believe four different settings.
If handling is a concern, though, you might want to ask a race team what they think of switching from a dual-spring to a single-spring design...

I've been reading some of the archived topics on the conversion.. and not a lot of bad things were said. as long as I have good brakes and rubber, I'll be able to handle most anything.
I basically just want to modernize the car without dumping big bucks into a C4-C5 suspension upgrade

:skep: the C4's seem to do fairly well with that design.
A transverse monospring causes vibrations to be transferred from one side of the car to the other, giving it a bit of a solid axle feel. It's not bad, but it's not optimal. I'm sticking with coil springs in front on my 'vette. I'd only change to a R&P and put in lighter upper arms.

Here is a pic of what it looks like: The four bolt holes at the center are the ride height adjstment bolts. I have mne set on # 2

Here is a pic of what it looks like: The four bolt holes at the center are the ride height adjstment bolts. I have mne set on # 2
It looks like the arch of the spring makes contact with the frame member under the balancer. Does this create any noise when the spring flexes or put undo stress on the frame member ?

timbo i believe the four holes in your pic are for ride stiffness not hight adj. you adjust the hight with the long bolts that go to the lower a arm.
i have the entire system from vbp and i love it. the only thing i am not sure about is that the front spring does touch the cross member when the wheels are off the ground and the spring do not have enough arch to it so if unless the front hight is set high enough the spring loses pressure/contact with wheels of the ground but other than that i love it

i have this kit on my 80 also. I love it. it rides better handles better. i think you'll be very happy w/it. the kit i have on the car also has the lower tubular a-arms

I did not get the A arms Art at Van Steel was talking about, yet it worked wonders with the aluminum inserts and the spring.. Also Bilstein Sport shocks.

The stiffness is varied by adjusting the length of the cantilever on the spring. The longer that cantilever, the softer the spring and vice-versa.
The height should be adjusted in the same manner as the rear springs - with the outer bolts.
This does look like a nice setup, providing the independent adjustment of stiffness and ride height :yesnod:
