Troubleshooting hot air at side vent on a 78. Here is what I found
Starting to place heat barrier in my gutted out 78. I opened up the side vent door to inspect it and found the sealing rubber around it was shot... Looking further I see that the bonding seam is cracked and broken inside alowing engine heat to enter also.
Someone started a thread on this a while back which made me look for this very problem. Can't remember who it was but thanks a million.. :yesnod:
Do I have to replace the door or is there a weatherstrip kit for this? What is a good bonding calk to use to seal the crack?
Thanks for any info,
Neil in Tenn.

Hello,
You can probably use some two part epoxy putty to seal the crack.
The vent door rivets will have to be drilled out to replace the seal that is sandwiched between the doors.
I bought a new door seat kit from Doc Rebuild. It should come with rivets and instructions to put it all back together. :chevy

I THINK it was a member in NJ, and I too can't remember BUT I too thank that person a whole bunch!!!!!!
-----I too found the caulking material dried out and a lot missing. I used rope caulk (the stuff to help seal windows at home). It made a big difference while driving. Hot air used to pour out of my vents while driving.
