oil leak around spark plug
I have a recently rebuilt engine, so leaks are fairly easy to see on the clean engine. The aft-most spark plug on the driver's side has oil leaking around it. Not a lot, but the porcelain portion of the plug that is usually white (and is white on all my other plugs) is black- with a little rust. There is also some oil spray around that area on the engine.
What might this be an indication of, and how serious of a problem is it?
Thanks,
Matt

let us hope that it is the valve cover leaking. check up above the spark plug in question and see if you can find an oil trail running down from the valve cover. Bill

I suggest pulling the the plug in question and check to see if it shows signs of oil fouling in the chamber. If so it may be a bad valve seal on that cylinder. Not a terminal problem if it is a valve seal. Its a little involved but it can be delt with. When oil collects around the plug threads its often a sign of bad valve seals. Just because the engine is new dosnt rule out that problem. An error could have been made during the assembly of the head.
