Default How did YOU polish the stainless steel trim on your C3??

What did you use? Type of polish, type of buffing wheel, buffer speed, etc...

I want a "mirror" finish when I'm through. I've heard hand polishing would be a waste of time to get the finish I want---it could make the trim duller instead of shinier.

As always, any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated!!! :D

my dad turned me on to a polish that he uses on his aluminum and stainless onhis semi. It's called blue magic. You can pick the stuff up at any local truck stop. You apply it the same as you would a mag wheel polish and rubb it till it turns black. I used it on my t-top bar on mine and it came out like glass.

I used electric drill with buffing wheel and buffing compound made specifically for stainless steel :D

I don't think my 75 has any stainless steel...lots of chrome though! I use Mother's for the chrome and aluminum. What is stainless steel on your vette?

I bought a buffer motor from Harbor Freight and a "Buffing set" containing several wheels and several compunds from Eastwood. It is actually a nice setup. I polished all of the stainless around the windshield and it really came out very nice.

Stainless Steel parts are the T-top reveal molding, the reveal molding on top of the windshield, and the trim pieces along the top and both sides of the windshield, and the trim pieces at the bottom of each window.

EDIT: I forgot, the trim rings on the rally wheels and t-top trim pieces are also polished stainless. I think the only chrome there was is the door handles, lock cylinder covers, emblems, derby center caps (outer parts are stainless), ignition shielding, and chrome mirrors.

:iagree:
The NeverDull is good stuff. It gives a really nice hand rubbed finish on chrom.
It might do well on stainless for a final finish.

I just discovered Turtle Wax Chrome Polish today. It's great stuff. Real easy to use and doesn't smell. Excellent shine.

Stainless Steel parts are the T-top reveal molding, the reveal molding on top of the windshield, and the trim pieces along the top and both sides of the windshield, and the trim pieces at the bottom of each window.

Interesting...my T-top and windshield moldings and window trim are chrome. Perhaps an aftermarket restore?

Try a magnet on those parts. They might look like chrome, but they are stainless buffed to a chrome-like lustre (at least that's the way they were when it left the factory). There is steel behind those parts which might attract the magnet, but those windshield pieces are far enough away where they won't.
