Occasionally people want these things. Running about $125 (with lockup converter maybe $150), needing built you'd be lucky to get $50 around here.

When you say retired I suppose you mean its in need of rebuild? A dime a dozen these days. I have a perfectly good th400 that nobody seems to want. Might be able to swap it to a tranny shop in the future for some other parts you might need. Thats what I did with one of my old trannys. Gave it to them for a few parts I needed for another.

Jvette73 - To bad that your not closer I buy every th400 I can find. I just broke the case bell housing on my 4X4 this summer and put all my good parts in a used case.
To the poster At the local scrap metal yard my buddy gets 350's and 700's for $25. Tranny shops bring them in by the truck load.

Around here, I can buy a used one at a wrecking yard, that's guaranteed to work for $100. I would think a core would be worth, at the most, $25.

for $25 I would take it to the recycler, do my part to reduce total energy consumption, leave natural resources for future generations , and perhaps that aluminum would be reborn as a "LS-7" (or whatever they call it for the C6). So much for cost recovery during the rebuild.
