Is my 79 vette engine a mongrel?
I've had the car since April and when it was safety inspected the mechanic said the engine looks as if it had been changed within the the past 2-3 years. Tonight I wrote down these numbers.
The intake is 14057055 GM. The block has 2 numbers V0923D5B and below it in smaller letters 2DN201343 <- the last number might be an '8'. Can anyone decode these? Thanks.

14057055 1986 chevy 305 intake, D5B 1981 350 190 HP camaro or 1983 305 150 HP camaro. the other numbers are part of the vin# so check vin# to find out the year

Thanks Clem and Blu8t for the help. I wanted to know exactly what's under the hood for horsepower improvements. The engine pulls pretty good right now but I want to be pushed back in the seat on takeoff!
Clem.. you mentioned about the other numbers being the vin#? Is there a website to look this up? Thanks.
This forum is great. This is my second request to the forum for help and both times got a quick reply. I hope I can return the favours over time. Greatly appreciated! I've had a number of cars over the years and always wanted a vette, once other things were taken care of. It's been worth the wait. Love to go cruzin every chance I get. :steering:

The last four numbers of the lower number on the engin pad should match the last four digits of your VIN on the windshield if the block is original.
