Default Transmission question (long one)

I am collecting info here :D

I am planning on getting a ZZ4 engine to put in my 75 vette and am looking now to the possebilities of adding a new transmission (I want 4 gears)

What would be the best deal from the next transmissions ?? http://www.phoenixtrans.com/html/gmtrans.html (PT700R4ZZ)
or http://www.transmissioncenter.net/200-4R.htm
or http://www.transmissioncenter.net/pe...automotive.htm (700raptor)
or http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...m.php?ITEMID=8
or http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata....php?ITEMID=13

I would like some good acceleration but still be able to cruise at decent RPM's

PS: I don't have any clue about all those specs so give me your opinnion about this or other recomendations...

Thanks

Did you see this post? Might be tough to beat the dependability of the good old TH400? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=638667

FWIW: I think most of the drag racers are running 2 gears

So no Bowtie, I like my TH400 but the problem is that I would like a 4th gear on it.

So if I want that I have to get another transmission.

Only 2 ways I know of to get an o/d on a 400 tranny......Gear vendors overdrive....hard to install, bunches of cutting, and only about 20% overdrive ratio from what I seen so far.....

now you can go to the 4L80e, tranny, billed as a 400 with overdrive....gears are similar to a 200......but the 4L80e requires a computer shifter, and of course it's big and HEAVY....will have to cut the tranny hump for sure....I did on my 700 conversion...wish I did a 200 instead...being lazy...

So I'll look into a bowtie 200R4 or a 200 reptoid.

Thanks for the info

I have been extremely satisfied with my 700R4. My trans builder has always been on a never ending quest to improve 700R4 performance and durability. I'm sure that there are other trans builders just as passionate and successful with 2004Rs. I think that most of the OD transmission failures we read about are caused by a faulty rebuild or poor setup after installation.
I hope to read about a lot more 2004R conversions here on the forum so that we can learn even more about their pros and cons in comparison to the ever popular 700R4.
For those interested in the 2004R, check out this excellent post from the archives.
200-4R Trans Selection Process (long) http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=524772

I also found the "Strengthening a 2004R" page at the 2004R Performance center web site to be good reading. http://www.2004rperformancecenter.com/

they are frequent posters here, http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/for...?s=&forumid=12

they build 2004r's and 700r4's as bullet proof as you want
