Default Alternator upgrade -- how big do I go ??

Want to upgrade my stock Alt. to offset my underdrive pulleys lighting off the low battery lite at idle. Think the stock is 60 amp.
? is do I go 80/100/140???

The factory rated 108 amp SI17 series alt is the way to go, it's on the '79 caddy seville with rear window defogger....I think the 140 amp units are a hotrod version of the above unit....it's basically a bolt in...

One vote for Power max 100 amp from http://www.Summitracing.com I even installed a larger Diameter Alt. pulley wheel to keep the RPM down. So now anything above 1250 motor rpm is outputting 70+ amps and anything over 3000 motor rpm is actually 106 amps. At a factory set 14.2 volts.

It keeps all my power suckers going and it was half the price of the even larger 140 amp.

I have a 100amp powermaster, more than enough, 1 wire hookup and much smaller than the stock thing.

it was the only one small enough to fit my application.

If you want to stay authentic, a good rebuilder can rewind your original to a higher output too.

I got the 140 amp Tuff Stuff alternator, it isn't on yet so I'm not sure how it works... *shrugs*

I put a 12SI unit in place of the 10SI that came on the car. Was rated for about 82 amps. No modifications needed, seems to keep the voltages up at idle, where as the factory rated unit would let them fall.

I got the upgrade to 80 Amps from http://www.alternatorparts.com about 3 years ago. Took me about 45 minutes to do it myself and it works great. Why waste your money on a new one. :smash:
