Default Inverted Leaf Spring - how dangerous

The previous owner of my 74 inverted the leafspring. It's been that way for over ten years. I have a new factory steel spring I haven't installed yet since I drive it very little (will remedy that SOON). I have always been a bit paranoid of it breaking since it is now tweeked the opposite way. Has anyone out there done this or heard of premature failure caused by this? Any thoughts would be helpful & probably motivational. Garage temp is still 100+ daily in good old Tx. so motivation is critical.

Thanks

Sorry, but, What do you mean "inverted"? THere's no way it was truly inverted and turned upside down. I assume that you mean the spring was spun so that the ends were switched such that the drivers side is now the passenger side. There should be no problem with that at all.

When a spring breaks it could hit your differential and break it, causing all kinds of problems and exspence.

A 'normal' leaf springs archs up while the vette spring archs down, is that what you men by inverted? I see no way it would work with the spring upside down.

The previous owner mentioned removing the top spring of the leafpack, flipping it, then putting the pack back together ??? Was a new one for me ...

Might want to put it on e-bay as a 'rare' corvette inverted spring.

That seems a little fishy.

**** edit: do you mean the longest spring or the shortest?******
***** I assumed the longest*****
******The only rear I ask is inverting the shortest or top spring makes no sense to me what so ever*****

It would probably lower the car a bit and increase the spring rate.... but the metal fatigue problems that can possibly occur from it exponential and the consquences are horrendous.

Remove it and replace it since you have another lying around..... Its an hour job tops... and that includes the postwork celebration beverage.

Thanks guys ... I think I will remove IT! And definitely celebrate it's departure with an appropriate beverage
