1970 Stereo
Recently I pulled my dash panels off of my 1970 vette. Behind the panels I found two amplifiers, I think. The car originally came with an AM/FM stereo with rear speakers. It has been updated since with an after market stereo. These devices still have all of the wires and hook ups. I am willing to sell or trade them if anyone is interested. Please email me at the provided email address. Thanks

Hi David,
The amp in my '70 seems to have given up the ghost. What will you take for yours?
Thanks, Greg

I didn't realize that you could get rear speakers in a '70. Mine has an AM/FM with the speakers in the dash. Was this an option?

Re: 1970 Stereo (RMVette)
Not sure, just going by what a friend told me. I don't know why there are two amps. One is the sixe of the radio, and the other much smaller, but definitely an amp.

Re: 1970 Stereo (LT1driver)
What could the small amp be for? It was installed in the same manner as the big amp with the same color of wires. Could it be a booster for the front speakers?

Re: 1970 Stereo (Apocolips)
I restore these radios as a business and the radio requires two seperate convectors(amps) to power the speakers. One is mounted near the passenger side speaker and the other in or around the front of the console. The mono radios only required the one convector located near the speaker. GM did NOT offer rear speakers until late in the C3 life. If you have any questions you can email me. BTW, I emailed you about the amps. Scott

Re: 1970 Stereo (Apocolips)
There were no external amplifiers installed in C3 Corvettes. What you are referring to is the "Convector" it is basically an external output transistor mounted to a heat sink. The stereo versions stil used a single heat sink but it was larger in size.

Re: 1970 Stereo (dman535)
dman, The 68-72 stereos(U79) used two seperate convectors(one big and one small). Begining in 73, GM used a single convector for the stereo units(U58). Scott
