Red Hot exhaust manifolds, WTF??
OK Guys...
Still having problems with the 82 Crossfire...
After the car warms up, still getting a check engine light.
Noticed tonight after I came back from a ride that the exhaust manifolds
are RED HOT. Not good right?? What could cause that??
What's the fix??
Anyone have any ideas??
Changed the ECM, O2, EGR, gas cap etc... all the usual suspects, still no luck.
Driving me freakin nuts

It sounds like to me that you have a serious lean condition. I suspect that your O2 sensor is bad, or there is something funny going on in your ECM. EFI (especially X-fire) can be hard to diagnose. I could be your map sensor (or does the X-fire have a maf?) Something is really messing up your mixture control.

There is a freeware program designed by a Forum member called WinALDL, it needs a Windows laptop PC and a home-made cable but it can read your ALDL port and show you everything that's going on in your system.
Go to this link. http://w1.601.telia.com/~u60113744/s...l/winaldl.htm/
The cable is easy to make, and the program is as good as many commercial programs.

I just emailed you the link and I attached the file to the message. Just in case that doesn't get to you here is the link again.

And yes your timing could be off.

Unfortunately I don't know much about the 82 ECM or the diagnostics. If the check engine light is on, is there a way of shorting across the ALDL connector and getting the ECM to flash the codes from the Check Engine light?
If you can get theECM codes then it will certainly narrow down your parts changing.

Marck definatley knows this stuff and is a good one to ask.
I'll impart what little wisdom I can. 90% of all my CFI problems were related to vacuum lines or leaks. I always check it, check it again, and then have someone competent check it. :jester
To check your Engine Light codes:
You can do this with a wire or go to Auto Zone or ??? and ask for a GM Code Key (they gave me mine). This is a little fork looking thing. Then get a pencil and paper.
Pull your ash tray and you'll see a 12 hole connector. With the ignition off put the key in (or wire jump) the A and B slots which will be the rear most two on the left side. Turn on the ignition switch on. Count the flashes on the Check Engine Light. The system delivers two digit error codes in order from lowest to highest value so the order means nothing. Once you get the code(s) you can work from there.
