Power Steering fluid on empty any damage?
I have an 81 vet. I have never had any steering problem or heard any noise from power steering. However, over the weekend, I decided to check the power steering fluid. When I open the cap and pulled out the stick there was no fluid on it. Then I stuck my finger down into the place where the fluid goes and I felt none. I added fluid to the proper level and then went for a drive. No problems. Do think I did any damage driving it before I put the fluid in it? Why didn't I hear or feel something when the fluid was so low?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you had a problem it would have made a lot of noise, the pump must have been still covered. How much P/S fluid did it take, the whole system hold just under a quart.

Not sure how much I put in it but it was about 8 to 12 ounces. I used a (turkey) basting syringe, that is a new one which I rinsed with power steering fluid before I put any in the pump. I used maybe 3 to 5 1/2 full syringe squirts to fill it.
Since I have heard no noise I am going to focus on finding the leak and repairing that and treating the pump as if it is OK.
