I added stainless steel pipes and steel lifetime mufflers from Allen and they are plenty loud. ;)

A friend from work has a 78 with true duals and flowmasters. I don't have any audio from it but I can tell you it sounds pretty nice. Around town it's perfect, but on the highway it gets to be a little loud. It still sounds nice but it gets to be a little annoying. With a converter in front of them they would probably be nicer at highway speed.

I am supposed to get my 79 back tomorrow with true duels with 40s on it. I have ran the 40s for a while now and I love the deep rumble it has. It is going to be interesting to see how it is going to sound with headers, no cats and two pipes... If I can figure out how to post it I will post a sound file.

I have an 81,dont know what difference there might be exhaust wise.I had true duals put on with the flowmasters, I went with 2 1/2" pipes all the way, does have the cat converters inline, they sound great, higher the rpm better the sound. They recently dropped the emmisions requirments in my part of florida,so I beleive the cat's will be coming off soon. However, they will never sound as explosive as my wife's LT4 with allens stainless chambered, nothing but pipe! :steering:

I didn't see Flowmasters available for C3 on their web site. Is it a custom install then?

They have sound clips on the website too.

I went to a local muffler shop that is well known for performence setups (Rainbow Mufflers 2747 38th ave north,St Petersburg FL. 727-547-1001) Got the true duals 2 1/2" pipes all the way back, cat's,Flowmasters and labor just under $500.00.They sound great, higher the RPM better the sound, however they can never match the explosivness of my wifes LT4. It has "Allens"

chambered stainless, nothing but pipe. She hits the gym five days a week at 5:00 am,she's been called the neighborhood alarm clock. It's taken three years but I think they are used to it now.

I just got my 77 fitted with a new exhaust system. I also was looking into the flowmasters but the shop advised against them as there was not enough clearance for them.
My 77 now has a set of Rhrino's installed and I upgraded the exhaust pipes from a 2" to a 2 1/4".. Sounds REALLY NICE :) When you apply a little gas you can hear the power though these babies.

I have just fitted true 2 1/2" duals to my '81 and have the stock mufflers on at the moment, do flowmasters sound much different and do they improve performance. Also how much do they cost?

I have them on my 81,with 2 1/2" sounds great, more RPM better sound.I called the shop that I had mine installed at,they sell them for $89.99 each.... but with flowmasters no clamps. They must be welded! As far performance I dont know,I sure have better pickup? Im sure the combo of 2 1/2" pipes, true duals and those mufflers.

Please post the link to those $51 mufflers. I can't find them on Summit's web site anyplace.

OK, I found 'em. Thanks Frank....

It is not gonna sound that much different on a stock car....As you are not making very much power at all. I would think any increase in power would be minimal...You need heads cam and headers to really change the car
