I have a question about getting my '69 plated in Florida. Since some Forum bretheren live in the Sunshine State, I thought it would be easiest to ask here.

Basically, I am doing freelance consulting work, and one firm is threatening to simply hire me full-time to work out of their Palm Beach office.

If I take the job, the Vette comes with me. Love me, love my Vette.

But what is required to get the Vette legal in Florida? As a '69, do I need emissions testing/inspection? Cam and exhaust are all aftermarket.

It depends on the county. Most counties do not require an emmissions cert but some southern counties do. No saftey check. You can use a florida plate of year of you car if you want. Mine is 69-70. but you could use 68-69 too. Or you can get one of the hundreds of unique plates they offer, or antique Plate. Wecome to florida, Land of a thousand plates and red lights. be sure to set your watch back 35 years... you will blend in. :grouphug:

I'm pretty sure that there is no vehicle inspection (emissions or otherwise) in the whole state. Here in Brevard county I KNOW there isn't. You cannot license it as an antique or collectible though, you used to be able to do that but they discontinued it. Now you get a regular plate like everyone esle (unless you want a vanity one). :thumbs:

Whaddabout Palm Beach County? Any inspection going back to '69 model year vehicles (I don't have an A.I.R. pump, either...)

You could search for "Florida Department of Motor Vehicles." Also, look into what taxes are involved in bringing an out of State car to Florida. You might also seach for Palm Beach County on the Internet.

Just some ideas! :)

FLORIDA - In Bay County

Pretty painless and quick.

Just provide proof of insurance (mandatory) and proof of ownership (Title) and pay for a temp tag. You get the full tag or or your vanity plate once they have verified your title. If you are claiming to be a Resident then it is more expensive then if you register it as a non-resident. In florida you get the tag and keep it when you sell the car. There is only a rear tag.

As a non-resident it costs me $27 a year for a Vanity Plate. If you see a Yellow Convertible with STINGRY plates be sure to wave.

I think you can still get antique plates.. A friend of mine just got a blue plate that says antique for his 57 Chevy about a month ago.

There is NO LONGER an emission check in the state. There was one in 6 or so counties, but that was done away with.
As far as registering, it is a painless process, other than the $$$. A new registration costs $100 fee plus the fees for title transfer, license tag, county fee, agency fee, fee fee, etc.
You need a valid DL, St of Fla. insurance card, and title.
If you do not go to an independent tag/title agency, most of the county court houses handel transfers.

be sure to ask for the discount for cars 20 years old. they won't tell you about it :rolleyes:
renewals cost me 21.60 by mail. :cheers:
every 5 years they charge $5 extra for a new plate.

I'm not sure how he did that. When I went in last December I asked about antique plates and the said they no longer have them. :confused: :confused:
