Rear Main Seal leaking...will I need to remove the crank?
I have a stock 75 L48 with 50K miles on it. Is the rear main seal a two piece seal? Will I be able to replace the seal without removing the crankshaft?

Two piece seal. Crank must be loosened but not dropped. Pick up a Haynes manual for the procedure, its actually a very good resource.

I have removed only the rear main bearing cap before and used a small thin punch to push the seal out that is around the top of the crank in the block.
When you re-install the new seal over lap it in the bearing cap and the block.

I just removed the rear main cap and punched it out with a brass punch. The seal also comes with a shoe-horn type type deal to keep from splitting the seal when re-installing it.
