Window Tracks??
My windows are very lose and wobbly and I was wondering how to go about tightening them. My buddy said it looks like my tracks are screwed up and I need new ones? Is this true? I do not know a thing about windows. Please help.

Re: Window Tracks?? (Mack76)
I really do now know. I am pretty new to corvettes and the only thing I have really done is dropped a new motor in it.

There should be two anti-rattle pads in the door. One near the front and one near the back. They are mounted on the inside of the door and "push" the window toward the outside. They are about 1" long and 1/2" wide. You should be able to see them.
If you don't have a shop manual, you probably ought to get one. Helms is best and most expensive. Haynes is next best IMHO. They have detailed instructions on adjusting windows and pictures that show what the guts of the doors look like. Oh, and an Assembly Instruction Manual is a big help too.
Let us know if the pads are there.

I'm not sure that I see them but I really do not know exactly what they look like. Does anyone have a visual on these?

Mack is right about the anti rattle pads, the window is attached to a horizonal channel that has two plastic rollers that ride up and down in the vertical channels. The rollore can be replaced if they are shot. The channels are known to get gunked up with dried grease to the point the windows won't work right. Before you buy a lot of parts, pull the door panel and take a look. A good cleaning will clear up a lot of problems and the channels don't usually fail. Just beware of the dreaded "while I am at its"
Like mack said get good repair and assembly manual and it will all get easier.

I just finished putting mine back in the door. The others are absolutely correct, cleaning the old gunked up grease out of the tracks and getting everything adjusted right makes a big difference. Make sure your weatherstrip on the outside of the door at the bottom edge of the window is in good shape, otherwise when you adjust those felt wipers to stop the rattle you might have a risk of scratching the glass against a worn out weatherstrip.

I have the factory service manual for a 77. I assume your windows are probably adjusted the same way as shown in this manual. I could scan the section and email it too you if you wish.
The anti-rattle bumpers are important but there are also track adjustments that allow you to adjust the window rotation. Fore-aft position. Inboard -outboard position, and max raise - lower position.

It's probably not so much that tracks but the anti-rattle pads and the window rollers that need replacing. Check your catalogs for rebuild kits.
