Re: 5-SPEED Reserch (greg7097)
Greg,
I have a Tremec 3550(similar to the TKO) in my '68 with 3.73 rear end.
The first gear is Numerically higher so it gets off the line easier.
5th gear is a .66 overdrive so when you used to do 3K RPMs you now do 2K.
One of the best mods I think you can do. I love cruising at 65MPH at 2200RPM!
Keisler would be the solution for you without changing the diff.
They also have a version for higher power output but the overdrive is .85.

Re: 5-SPEED Reserch (DGT76)
I've checked into this and found this company....
http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/index.html
same great tranny.. MUCH lower price then Keislerauto.com
I'm ordering one this winter (if I keep the vette) :steering:

TKO is the way to go! The TKO I installed is by far the single best mod I made to my car. The Kiesler kit looks real good but it is expensive, you can install the TKO yourself for at least $1k less.
They require that you remove all the bolts from the bellhousing and slide it down over the clutch so that you can install the transmission without cutting the crossmember. While I agree that not cutting the crossmember is an admirable benefit, there is much more increased difficulty when it comes to clutch replacement on the Kiesler system.
They do have a very cleverly designed shifter that comes out in the factory location though which is also of some benefit.
