Default 68 convertible for $11000??

I know a guy with a 68 convertible,he,ll take $11000 for it.Say's the guy he bought it from say's the 79000 miles are original. It needs paint, the original paint was british green, now its a burgandy. It needs weather stripping, tires, currently has rusting aftermarket rims, interior is fair, top is in surprisingly good condition. It's a 327/ 300hp 4 speed, say numbers match.Im tempted but we already have two vettes and only a two car garage(I dont beleive in leaving a vette outside)Would it be worth investing in? Thanks Chuck

I think price sounds good, provided frame is good, car is solid, runs well etc...
Rusting rims bothers me because it indicates the car has been neglected. Wonder what else is rusted? It's worth a close look though. It may be a real find or a POS that isn't worth what he's asking. Only a good inspection will tell you which it is. Good luck!

I wouldn't pay more than $8k - $9k.... You'll be surprised how much money you'll have to spend to make the car nice... A good paint job alone will cost you $5k+++

I would make sure you take a good look at the car and itemize what it needs. The costs run high for parts if it needs them. Check for rust at the windshield frame also.

Also keep in mind that '68's have many parts specific to that model year that are not reproduced and are very difficult and expensive to find. If you're in to treasure hunts (I am, but then again, I'm a certified masochist) this may not be an issue. Many later year parts will fit if correctness isn't a big concern.

Interior, weatherstripping, and wheels (if you go with 15X8's) are no problem and all readily available.

Hi

As I also own a 68, I can only say, that seems to be a good price.
It is difficult to locate a chrome pumper C3 in fair condition for this price.
Ower here in Europe it is impossible. :mad
Yes, some of the parts are 68 only.
I'm still looking for the windshield upper corner brackets, that take the soft top locating pins.
No aftermarket available.
I know, the 69 and up parts fit, but they are not 68 specific.
Still, I am very happy and proud about my 68 as this is the very first C3 available and is and will be even more a collector car for ever.
It is always fun to see other C3 drivers try to enter my car. They can't open the door because of the 68 specific door lock **** push function versus later year door handle opening system. :D

Good luck and if it's OK, don't let it go.
