Default Still Trying to get dash lights to work--Help!

Here's what I did today on my 82 vette:

Pulled speedo/tach panel out
Pulled headlight switch out
Tried swapping in new bulbs--didn't work
Put voltmeter on wires coming out of headlight switch
The dark green wire doesn't show any voltage when switch is pulled out
I swapped the gauges fuse and courtesy lights fuse
Dome light works with switch/doesn't work just by opening of the door
Turn signal lights indicators work just not any of the other lights--this includes the gauge and shifter console.

Any ideas--could it be the switch or some other fuse I haven't swapped.

It looks like one of two things. Either a ground is disconnected or and this is from memory now, I believe the interior lights do not work if the brake lights/tail lights are out. This was GM's way of letting you know the rear lights were out. Check the fuses for the brake lights on the tail lights or have someone look at them while switch is on or brake pedal depressed.

I checked when I first bought the car and they seemed fine (brake lights). Interior lights have never worked. I will double check tonight to ensure brake lights work. Should it just be the two outside lights that light up when the brakes are depressed or all 4??

Did you change the switch? either that, or clean up the contacts and spring for the dimmer function. I replaced my switch, and Presto! - dash lights are back.

I wanted to hear someone else say they replaced their switch and the lights came back on. I'm ordering it today!!

Thanks, Jeff

I had the same problem couple of years ago. Had a short and was blowing the fuse. In '68 it's a 5A fuse that also powers the tail lights. I presume yours is the same. It may not be the switch but faulty wiring. Check before you order the switch. I have an extra switch....because I didn't check it out first!!
