Default Diehard stick guy going to an automatic

I have been doing a lot of research into a tranny that will handle the 950- 1,000 HP I expect to make with the next motor (12.5 to 1 AFR head 496-505 with NOS)

I was leaning towards a G-Force, but after doing a lot of reading about hi power clutch I cars have decided it is too much work and expense to get them right (clutch, rear end, driveline issues, etc) I have decided I will probably go with a Lenco or Jeffco 4 spd. I know that neither of them will fit into a C-3 very easy without major cutting, but that can be delt with. I can always make it look good later.

I have looked at the Lenco web site and it is not very informative, anybody have any experiance with a Lenco or Jeffco street tranny.

Any thoughts ? :

Just curious, wouldn't it be less work to build up a TH400 to handle the power than to go with another that requires more modifications?

Wimp! Only kidding, with that kind of power an auto will be easier on parts and easier to drive

A turbo 400 would be a lot cheaper and easier, but I really like the cool factor of a stick, or a cluster of handles sticking up to yank, so I will have to pay for that.

You really need to be a transmission mechanic to own and drive a lenco. You even need to go to a drag racing school to learn how to launch and shift them.

Clutch setup is critical. If it's not right you break things. You had better know someone who is now running one to teach you. they are not for the fient hearted.

Why not get a set of lightning rods if you can find 'em? I think they were available for a TH400 at some point, yes?

The Th400 is a beefier unit, but a BUILT Th350 would be better for the strip because it offer less parasitic loss. If you want an overdrive I'd say go with the 4L80E (which is a Th400 w/ an Overdrive) found in 1-Ton G.M. trucks. They seem to handle the 500tq+ rather well.

Hey, how hard is it to swap from a TH400 without overdrive to a 4L80E? How much do you think a junkyard would charge for a 4L80E? Trying to keep those options open for whenever I get this thing back on the road:D

I've heard out about seemingly straight men discovering their latent auto-matic tendencies. Sorry to hear you going to play for the other team...NOT that there's anything wrong with that!!! :nonod:
