timbo, IMO, you went to way ho too much trouble on that pressure hose, I just spliced it with a brass union fitting with compression rings, cut the 3/8 steel lines on the '87 vette pump in a nice straight spot, and same with the '72 vette line, and coupled them together, since then I have used a rack/pinion install/lines, just did the same thing, nice and clean, and most off all CHEAP and available....

I hope that you didn't try and connect a 45 degree tube flare to a GM 16mm metric o-ring pump discharge fitting.

All GM power steering pumps (1980 and later) used a metric 16mm o-ring discharge fitting. Unless you changed the discharge fitting on the back of the pump from the 16mm metric o-ring to a conventional 5/8 with a 45 degree brass seat you are probably going to leak. It might be possible to "mash" the two parts together (i.e. 45 degree tube flare into the metric port) but it will not be a reliable connection.

One other thought:
You can purchase an aluminum adapter from Tom Lee at Lee Manufacturing that will slip into your metric discharge fitting and convert it to accept a 45 degree tube flare. The part is only a couple bucks. He is at:

Hi Jim: I cut the original 16mm line (left the fitting and about three inches of steel line. I flared the line and put an aerotech adapter, attached to an AN6 teflon coated hose (1200 psi, using Aerotech hi pressure fittings. On the gear side, I used a 90 degree 7/16 o ring fitting attached to a hose connector to tie in to the AN6 hose, utilizing the same fitting. In other words, I kept the original fitting (+ 3 inches of line) on the pump, connected to AN6 s/s line with an Aerotech pressure fitting), and ran to brand new fitting on the gear side (7/16) It worked perfectly. In fact I got the idea from an e mail you sent me about 2 mos ago. No leaks (yet), and the steering feels great.

Is that the original belt route that the 86 used? My car doesn't have an A.I.R. pump, how would that affect the set-up. Yours is really nice looking, I like how your belt doesn't stratch all the way across the top, but goes down to the water pump.
