Something I found in the '71 today....
I know we all go through the cars that we buy from previous owners to see what was left behind, but I have never found something like this in any of the other five vettes and sports cars I have bought over the years. It just gives reason to really check things as you never know what you might find.
What did I find?
While prepping the vette to go to the strip tomorrow I needed to put a couple of aerosol cans of tire inflater in the passenger side rear compartment. I had already been through the compartments before and found the service manual, fuses, small rope and other things. But, for some reason I fished my hand in there again today and found a plastic calling card envelope with a small piece of paper folded in it that I missed before. I almost just threw it away, but I asked myself why would that be there and opened it. Inside was a small handwritten note that said....
"My husband and I loved this car. I hope that you will love her and take care of her as we did."
I folded it back up.... put it back in the folder... and right back where it was placed no telling how many years ago. That message is part of the history of this vette and should stay there for someone to find again no telling how many years from now. I think that's cool that someone would take that time to leave the message that maybe no one will ever find.
Has anyone thought about doing that? I know when I bought my present house I found a note from the previous owners how much they loved it, but not this type.

It's always cool to find some history about our cars - especially if you do love your car as only enthusiasts do. I was forunate enough to receive a photo album of rebuild pictures and a folder full of receipts when I bought my car. As a matter of fact, I'm going through them right now, tracing my car's history... seeing what was done, when, and by whom for how much. It sounds like your car has had at least a few very good years of care. Continue the tradition!

It would be something to find the owner who wrote that. :) :) :)

After buying my car, other than the original owner crying when I was leaving her driveway, I've not found any sentimental notes like that. I think it is really neat. :yesnod:

I agree about finding the owner who wrote that but you might sign the paper yourself saying you are/did and hope the next owner who finds the paper does the same.

I found an owners card from the last owner. I tried to contact via mail, it was a business address though and no longer in business.

My dad (1907-1999) always told the story of a Lincoln (probably 20's maybe 30's) brought into a dealership for a rattle -- upon many hours of searching -- the rattle was found to be a beer bottle in a body panel with a note from an assembly line worker inside that read ""so, you found your rattle you rich SOB" --- true story? who knows?

I had a simular experance when replacing a floor in an old house. The house was built in 1910. I ripped the old kitchen floor out to put a new one in and found a brand new 1910 dime. I put it back under the new oak floor boards.

When I parted with my '93 I put a note in it with my name and number and told the new owner to call me if they had any questions. No one ever did. I wonder where it is.

It takes a very thoughtful person to do something like that. Very nice!

I actually misquoted what was on the note. I was just going by memory at the time. Here's the actual note. It's actually only about 1/4" tall writing on it.
After I post this it goes back in the compartment. It would be neat to find these two people just to drop them a note that the vette was never abused, but somewhere in between the care was not taken. But, she now has a good home. I think even they would appreciate it.

That's too cool. I got a Snap-On #2 philips screwdriver and a bunch of junk with my car. Maybe you should go check your '74 in the same place for a note:D
