Gas Tank Removal
Hey all ....
Sometime next week I'm going to start the rebuild/refresh of the rear-end of the car.
I'm going to do all the regular stuf plus change the spring.
I was wondering what it would entail to remove the gas tank ??
Want to clean it up and rust prof etc ....
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...
Also,
If I use the P:oR-15 for frame repaint and seal, do I have to take to bare metal and have a perfectly smooth frame ??
:chevy

There is a nice article in the "Corvette and Chevy Trader" magizine on gas tank removal. It is in the September Issue at your newstand.

The haynes maual also has a lot of good info on everything. What you need to do is remove the spare tire carrier, move the exhaust out of the way, and disconnect all the stuff on top of the tank and then undo the 2 straps that hold the tank. Then you twist and let it come down.

I have removed my tank before. It's not a difficult job.
If your car is so equipped, there is a barely visible vapor canister hose on the upper side of the tank on the driver side. Other than that, all of the bolts and hoses are obvious.

Thanks for all the great info
All I should have to do is unbolt it. There is no exhaust stuff in the way, I have factory side exhaust.
You all have been a great help.
