Looking to purchase a 73 vert. Need Advice
I have found a 73 Vert with 4sp available at a local dealer. I have put hold on it while they check it out and repair/replace the interior door panels. They will call me next week to do my inspection and I need some help from you guys. What do I need to look at to make sure I'm getting what I am paying for?
I also have a second question, They are asking 18,500. Without showing pictures I know you can not get the full impact of the car. The body is in good shape, I have not driven or heard it run. Assuming that the motor, trans and read end are in good condition is $18,500 a reasonable price?
TIA

In my opinion, the price is extremely high. Of course, you do not want a rusty frame, so check for that.
Actually, unless the car is in extremely good condition it sounds a lot like a sucker deal to me. Personally, I would keep looking.

For 18.5k you should be looking at a pretty mint big block, 4spd, convertible. A regular 4spd convertible non-L-82 car would probably go for around 12k in good shape, a good L-82 car maybe 13.5K, only with a big block added would you get near the 18.5 they are looking for.

With the information you have provided I suggest this: Locate the closest NCRS member or club sponser in your area and ask if anyone would be kind enough for a small fee to return to the dealer with you for a look see.
$18K-plus, seems high, but, may very well be the right price for the car, i.e. if the car has been judged (NCRS) an holds a Top Flight award or greater.
Having said that, I question why they are replacing the door panels?
I just returned from Carlisle and I saw several 73's for sale from $14.5K to $24K, with only one for $18.5K worth the monies. This car is not even a vert, but I believe it is still available. If you are interested, contact me and I can put you in contact with the owner. No, it is not my car, sorry NFS.

At $18,500 the car should be near perfect. ALL numbers must match for that price. You did not say what engine, but if a big block then the over quality can come down a bit for that price.
If it is an L48 conv 4-speed, without air, I would want to see its Bloomington Gold or NCRS Top Flight certification. :)

I would take it to a garage and do a complete inspection of the under carriage and look for leaks, rust, and any plates welded to the frame for support, check for any recent bondo joints also, check the oil in the trans and block (smell for any burning). The rest of the car should be in very good shape with just a few things to be replaced, your not getting an NCRS car for that money

What about for a '69 vert ?
- 454, 4spd,
- Orange w/ blk inter/top.
-new top
-CD stereo
-billet steering wheel
-Hydroboost brakes
-new crome Lic bracket
-new drv mirror
-new door handles
-new wiper arms
-2.5" stainless steel exhaust pipes w/ new flowmaster 40 mufflers and ss tips.
-AC car, but ac not connected..all parts there w/new AC radiator.
Awsome 5' car.... gets alot of great comments at cruise-ins!
Would this be worth $18.5?
I might be selling mine..
