Default Where should the front speakers be?

My 77 has an aftermarket radio and 2 aftermarket speakers, in the back. Did these cars originally come with 4 speakers? If so, where were the front ones located - dashboard or kick panel? Thanks.

I just replaced the stock radio in my 77. It had an am/fm stereo with two front speakers. The speakers were in the dash. The pass. side was pretty easy to replace, the drivers side was a real PIA.

2 4X6 in the dash which can be mounted in the kick panels. I tried some experiments w/ Pioneer 4x6 in the kicks & it worked nice though little bass as expected. Good bass when mounted in doors.

I've got an aftermarket cd/radio and small amp tucked in underneath it. I have 2 in the dash, 2 in the kicks and a monster boombox taking up all the space behind the seats. I rarely listen to it as I'm always listening for whats going to break next.

I also have two speakers in the dash, and two speakers in the kick panels, with a boom box in the back. however, i turn mine up so i can't hear what is breaking next. :steering:

How do 4x6s mount in the dash ('77) Are there brackets, or do they go directly screw into the dash material? (if anybody has said brackets, I'm in the market!)

2 brackets that screw to the upper dash pad,the speakers bolt to them.I had to locate a used pair, could not find new ones.
