Fuel tank question
I did a stupid thing. I painted my fuel tank and removed the markers. That was three months ago and after the paint dried, i never put them back on. DUHHHHHHH me
Now, i'm ready to start putting the car back together and i don't know what all the line are on the fuel tank.
I've changed the fuel pump and i won't be running a return line and i'm not re-installing the vapor canistor so i need to know what lines i need to cap and what line i need to run to the fule pump.
Now if i can just find that frame to put the fuel tank on.... I know i left it somewhere?????

Re: Fuel tank question (honaker)
Well Doh!
Wish I could help. You helped me a bunch by putting me in contact with Ken. He ended up having to torch one of the bearings off as it was completely melted / soldered to the spindle. Still saved a bunch even having to replace a spindle. Car is now on the road but I get about 20 MP container of power steering fluid. Not to mention that one of my calipers is leaking again. Have had them all replaced in last couple of years. Also needs a tune-up, and yada yada yada.
If I can help at all, give me a buzz. You have my number and email.
BTW - finally converted my shed into a garage. It's A/C  Now I have some place to look at my car while it is not running and I know something is gonna come up

Re: Fuel tank question (76Stinger)
Fuel pump line is a 3/8 tube hose that attaches to the bottom of the tank. Fuel pump return line is a 5/16 line that attaches to the top passenger side of the tank. The vent line which runs from the tank to the carbon can is a 5/16 line that hooks up to a hose and valve at the rear drivers side of the tank. If you plug that line you will need to use a vented gas cap.

Sounds like you almost have a shop ready. Man, what i would do to work on my car in A/C.
I'm glad ken was able to help you out. I don't think that there is anybody better than him in the area when it comes to suspensions and restorations.
If you need any assistance with your 76 let me know.
If you get a chance, stop by this sunday at the shop. I should be painting the engine. I'm hoping to have it on the frame by next week end and running.

Re: Fuel tank question (redwingvette)
Mine has four lines. Two on either side, all of them on top. I'll run with the 3/8's and 5/16's rule. I'm going to cap both lines on the driver side and i already have a vented cap standing by.\
Thanks so much for the info. I hope that i can return the favor.

I've got a '72 that is going back together (slowly). I just started to mount the gas tank. I can send you a picture or two if it would help.

Any special time? Promised my son I would rent a boat and take him fishing at Glenn Springs Sunday but that will be later. Just can't handle sitting out there on that lake in the heat and after seeing the water moccasin by the dock yesterday evening, not sure I want to cool off in the lake.
I'll drive the "rat" if it is still running :steering:

Re: Fuel tank question (honaker)
All sending unit fittings on the right (pass) side are to the fuel pump. All fittings on the left (drivers) side are for the evaporative canister. Good call you made on using a 'vented' cap if you're plugging the evap lines!
Don't forget to clean the sending unit's electrical connections real good, cause who wants to go back there again?! :smash:

The 3/8" on one the right is the fuel feed to the fuel pump.
On the left, that goes to the charcoal canister and may be the vent as well. I don't know if you can block this one off.

Re: Fuel tank question (honaker)
Thanks for all the info guys. The gas tank is on of those things you want to make sure you have right before you put it back together. It's not exactly accessable.
I'm going to cap the driver side lines and the small one on the passenger side.
I wouldn't mind using on of the smaller driver side line as a vent some how, however, i'm not sure how i would do it.

Re: Fuel tank question (honaker)
Just use a piece of 1/4" fuel/evap hose to join the 2 (left side) evap lines together, and clamp in place. Quick and easy! :chevy
