Man, I would be scared as heck droping coin on that purchase. I am pretty sure that is recycled or reclaimed refrigerant, not virgin. Which means it could be worthless.
At $135,000.00 divided by 7000lbs = around $20.00 per lb.
I am pretty sure you can buy virgin drop in replacements for less than that...

Cylinders not included.
---- he must just let it out and you have to get it out of the air at your place.

I think this is very much illegal. The seller claims it is ARI700 certified, most likely because of the machine he used to remove the refrigerant and store it in the reclaim cylinders. I see the cylinders are not included in the auction. This is obviously an attempt by someone who fell into this stuff most likely for the cost of his time to get instantly rich. I wonder how he intends to prove it is certified?

Whoops, the auction appears to be gone. Guess ebay pulled it.
[EDIT] Actually, a number of the ebay pages I just tried to pull up don't work, so I think something's glitchy at ebay--the auction's probably still there.

That is an interesting deal, good luck to him moving that kind of volume w/o the cylinders. I have 2 new 30lb cylinders I would like to sell. I am almost afraid I have waited too late. I kept them to do A/C service, but kept buying small cans until the price went over $20. Now all I see is R134 cars.

There is nothing illegal about having or servicing R-12 refrigarant. Most car dealers have the proper equipment. I have a buddy who works at a Chrysler dealer and he can recharge @ $55.00 a pound. A fully drained system is 3lbs. All of this hype about R-12 and how difficulte it is to recahrge the AC is overblown. It's just another example of stupid EPA rules that only cost the consumer more; never the people with the deep pockets. I know of late there are kits popping up all over here in IL to swtich over for about $40, but I don't know how good they are. It might be worth a try before doing the full system conversion. I'm glad my air blows good and cold, so I'll stay with the R-12 until something catastrophic happens.

:iagree: I stayed with R12 when I had my A/C system rebuilt. It cost about the same as R134 would have because no conversion was done.

R12 is still readily available. Retail price where I buy it (in non-recycled new 12-oz cans) is $40/lb. Wholesale discount puts the price way below that. No need to do any panic-buying of recycled garbage. I just replaced the compressor on my '85 Vette and re-charged the system myself with R12 for maximum performance. No problem.

In Nashville, Tn it is getting hard to find in small cans. The local Advance has a 30lb and he wants $999 for it. Only store I know that still has small cans is Pep-Boys and it's about $30. I agree that all the hype is un-necessary. I will run R12 until I just can't get it anymore. A good tight system should go a long time with no problems.

[QUOTE]There is nothing illegal about having or servicing R-12 refrigarant. /QUOTE]
This is a true statement, but it is illegal to sell reclaimed refrigerant. You can remove it from one piece of equipment and put it into another for the same owner, but it is supposed to be turned in for re-cycling by larger companies like DuPont who have the equipment to certify the stuff as pure (distilling equipment). The refrigerant would then be re-packaged in throw-away 30 pound cylinders or re-packaged in the bulk cylinders like the 125 pounders and sold as new. I believe that DuPont would give some money for useable R-12, but probably not what this guy is asking. My own feelings are there is probably nothing wrong with the stuff, but it's illegal just the same.

A mechanic around here wanted $100 a pound to charge mine with R12. And he is bitching because he can't get rid of it.
