Default Gear Vendors Overdrive?

Anyone ever use one of their over/underdrive units with a TH400 or otherwise? I was thinking long term about my options for an overdrive transmission and steeper gears, maybe this is what the doctor ordered. They claim to support some serious horse power, which appeals to me since I plan on putting out 600 or so (some day) and don't want to break things. Here's a link to their website:

For a 20% engine speed reduction, I don't consider that money well spent....

do a 4L80e tranny, and have over with it....

It is more than a 20% RPM reduction, but I forget exactly how much it is. I have their overdrive unit on the back of a 1973 Muncie wide ratio gearbox. I love the overdrive and wouldn't trade it for anything else now that it is installed in the car. I can use it as a gear splitter and have 8 forward gears. You can also shift into any overdrive gear if you are at WOT without using the clutch. So to drag you can clutch coming off the line and then shift without using the clutch at WOT into the overdrive gears. The downside is that you have to cut a lot of the transmission tunnel away to get the unit to fit and then form a new tunnel section over the overdrive.

I think it's the perfect solution, on the TV show trucks thats what they are putting behind the new GM 572 BB. Put a button on your shifter and now you have a 6 speed th400 that will hold up for a lot of power.

It has a $2200 price tag though before you start your mods. I think you'd be better off with an overdrive and some cash in your pocket for other engine mods.

Yeah, but for $2200 it is nearly a bolt-in from my understanding. Also, I don't think a 700R4 would hold up to 600HP+ without throwing quite a lot more than $2200 at it. To me it seems like a less expensive mod and they claim to support 1200HP or more. Maybe overkill, but seems like it costs less, so why not? Plus, like Tominator says, you get 6 speeds instead of 4. Their site claims this as an advantage for drag race, though I'm still skeptical that it really is while racing, but it would be cool while tooling around town:)

I wish they made a bolt on overdrive only (non-splitting) as well. I love the idea of the gear splitting and all, but I find it to be way to spendy to stick in my 10-12K Vette. If they had something that would let me throw down the RPM on the highway, then we would be talkin'. I would like something that I could bolt onto my existing TH350 just to give me that cruising gear that I yearn for.

Yea for $2200 you can get a 700R4 to handle about 700 hp

And the rotating mass is like nothing compared to a Th400 +Overdrive!
