Default Steel fuel line routing question

I am assuming that the preformed steel fuel line runs from the top of the filter UNDER the heater hose that enters the front of the intake and up to the carb. The one that I have does not seem to want to work either way, but at least that way seems like it is closer to fitting than the fuel line running over the heater hose. It just does not look right.

Is this the correct set up?

here is my custom, but factory-like steel line. i think it is very similar to the routing of a 68 427/390. (there is a 90-deg bend under the air cleaner straight to the carb inlet)

I ended up putting mine below the heater hose as well. I think that is correct. It is only way it would fit.

Thanks.
