Default Update on Dale - who was burned with coolant in my driveway.

This is an update from my previous post on our vette-together/party
and the mayhem that broke loose the day after. You can read about it here:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=625762

Dale stopped back this past Sunday. He looks like he has recovered for the
most part. He will definitely have some scars to remind him, but he can talk
about it and chuckle a week later - so all's well ...

He told me that he ran into some trouble after leaving that fateful day.
As he left my house, his 1967 427 had no trouble keeping the tires spinning
the entire distance to the end of my street (100 yds). He told me that soon
after that, he was stopped by our local police for 69 in a 20. Upon explaining
his dilemma, the officer insisted that she call an ambulance for him. She was
nice, as she let him off of the infraction - and also waited with his vette until
his girlfriend arrived to take it home. Pretty cool cop - I thought.

Dale had a party to get to himself, so he went on his way and promised to
return some weekend to 'talk cars' and stuff. So - I get to add a 1967 big
block convertible to the list of local 'vette friends'. Pretty cool car.

speaking of the local police:
I almost had the ballz to ask the local police to set up the road side radar sign
on my street the day of the party for safety-sake. I was gonna ask them to
have it say - "Slow -- Party Ahead". I chickened out - but maybe next time.

Wow, that sucks. Wonder what made him decide to open his radiator while hot... Good to hear he wasn't seriously injured. Could have been much worse if he'd burned his eyes or something...

I'll bet he did what I did a few years ago. Opened it half way (the cap has a spot where it pops up but is still not loose yet), then when it didn't overflow, opened it the rest of the way. What I didn't know was that the hot water takes a moment or two to turn into boiling water and come shooting out the filler neck after the pressure's let off. I got away with blisters on the backs of my hands. Kinda dumb, but you don't do it twice!

Ouch!

I had a jeep one time that was bad about leaking water. It had a little flipup top that would let a lot of the heat out, without having to actually unscrew it. Even then I carried a large towel to use when unscrewing the cap. It gave me some extra potection from a potential hospital visit. Unless the engine was cold.....

I hate to be insensitive or condecending, but doesn't that cap say something like CAUTION DON'T OPEN WHEN HOT

I can related though, sometimes I get engrossed or distracted and I do something really stupid and I look back and say, IDIOT

Just make sure there is 1/4 mile or more of street so when the Vette party starts you can go out and do some runs:yesnod: :auto:  :auto:

Glad to hear Dale is OK

Danger Dale?? :yesnod:

Not a good day. Not only did he get burned but he set himself up for a healthy ticket, and got the car towed. Talk about compounding problems.

People are big on the ambulance these days. Like Dale I am the type that will drive myself to the hospital. I have driven myself home with broken bones after a motorcyle crash and driven myself to the hospital for stuff like a poke in the eye, and stitches several times.

Glad to hear he is ok. How is the frame coming along?
