Default Engine seems to run too cool

Ever since I put an original '68 L-88 hood on the engine runs very cool. The temp guage is working as we have measured the coolant temp. It stays in the 150 - 160 range. It was in the high '80s here today and it still did not get over this temp. I am also not getting near as much heat coming into the cabin as well.

Sounds like you may get some good use out of a 180 degree thermostat.

Please don't tell me you've already got one in there

I have almost the same situation. Installed new "supercool" water pump and 180 thermostadt which reduced the temp from 209 to 170.

With an aftermarket L88 long style hood, no clutch fan (straight adapter) and an aftermarket aluminum fan I run at 165 degrees all the time.....

:iagree:

I had a Tstat stick open on a Buick V6 and it wouldn't run over 150-160

Last year I had the same problem. Car would not get warmer than 160 on the hottest days even under hard driving. Car came with a 160 stat, which I found stuck open. Replaced it with another one, 2 days later that was stuck open. Replaced it with 180 one, 2 weeks later that was stuck open too :mad

Decided to ask around and check dealer recommended parts. Turns out GM recommends 195 degree stat. I had nothing to loose, so I put in a 195 stat. Ever since, the car runs AT 195 degrees. No more, no less. No matter what the conditions are. Seriously.

Here is my opnion ( but I am no expert by any means ): When I had the 160, the car would try to operate at normal operating range (195) and the stat would fail. Same thing with 180. However, when 195 was installed, the car maintained that temp. There was much better performance as well. Noticable difference.

Try a 195 stat (make sure it's a failsafe unit ---crappytire has it for around $10). It worth a try......worked for me. Are you guys  yet??

Good luck
