Default Gas Guage

Does anyone recall the post about the gas guage doing to full and then back tho 3/4? It had something to do with the ground.

When it swings past full it's due to an open circuit. Either the ground connection is loose, or there is a break in the wire between the sending unit and the gauge. Check the ground first, it's the easiest.

Do you know where the ground is located?

Is it bouncing back and forth or is it jumping all over the place?

Not sure about an 80 but on my 75 the ground point is just above the driver's side muffler on the frame.

How about this problem.

I fill up, it reads close to full.

After about 100 miles (tank about half full), it reads empty.

faulty sending unit seems to be the easiest answer.
