Default HELP!!! Sand in the Fuse Box

While I was cleaning/prepping the firewall for paint I managed to get some sand into the fuse box. I had pulled it apart on the engine bay side and some sand from a previous sand-blasting session fell inside. There is some contact grease on the terminals inside that the sand has stuck to. What can I use to disolve the grease and get the sand out without ruining anything? Is there a special grease that I need to put back in there once I clean it all out?

I'll give this a shot. I would go to Radio Shack or a home center and get electrical contact cleaner. It should dissolve the grease but not harm the wiring or plastic. It also leaves a slight oil on the contacts to prevent corrosion. I would get enough to really soak it and flush everything out. Might take more than one can. Good luck.

I would think That an aerosol can of brake cleaner would do a fine job of removing any greas or dirt in that area, some compressed air right after spraying while the solvent is still wet to blow out any residual debris or grease.
Not exactly sure what type of lubricant to put back in there. Perhaps dielectric(sp) grease?
(edit) :iagree: vettfixr posted while I was composing, he has and excelent suggestion also.

As far as grease is concerned on our truck/trailer harness terminals we use di-electric from TruckLite. At home on the car I use the CRC version that you can get from Auto-Zone. I think CRC also sells terminal cleaners.

Thanks. I'll head over to Radio Shack and Auto-Zone to see what they have.
