choke stays on too long on my Edelbrock 1406
my carb works fine as does the choke however it stays at high idle too long after warm up...
i have tried turning the choke cap counterclockwise a notch at a time, one notch per day but it dosnt seem to help...
what am i doing wrong?

When the engine was built did you put the plugs in the intake manifold gasket to block the heat?

Do you have +12 on the electric choke? Is the electric choke ok, meaning is the coil inside still good? Is there any bind on the choke linkage, and do you have the fast idle screw set too high?

Sign, with a cold engine, early in the AM, before heat of the day.....engine off, car parked....
loosen the 3 screws on that choke pot..the black thing....hold open on the accelerator, and turn that black housing CLOCKWISE as you would look from the pass side at it....that should relax that coil spring adustment to allow the choke to open....let it open all the way, and come back counterclockwise with it, untill i'ts JUST closed....clamp down the 3 screws, and you should be fine..maybe a bit more adjustment when weather gets cold again..but no so much...dont pay any attention to the marks on the 'scale' they relatively meaningless....

Do you have +12 on the electric choke?
i dont know what you mean...?
Is the electric choke ok, meaning is the coil inside still good?
the carb is brand new...
Is there any bind on the choke linkage?
i will check that today...
Do you have the fast idle screw set too high?
no...other than staying on too long, the choke works perfectly...
it starts fine and idles at a nice RPM while warming up...
it just wants too stay at that idle for way too long...
while driving it at that time, i have to "kick it down" with the throttle if i come to a stop such as at a traffic light etc...

Your pic shows an electric choke and it needs +12vdc to operate. Where did you pick the +12vdc to attach to the choke. Need a suppy that is constant and switched by the ignition key, not one that is one for start and then off.

Sign, the two wires going onto that blacn housing...ONE of them goes to ground, find an engine bolt, connect it there, the other one needs find a 12 volts source that is switched on and off with ignition ....I think you have an HEI ignition there...hard to see/tell but by diameter it think it is.....so if that is an HEI...you take that other wire and splice it to the Bat--Pink wire going to the HEI....in a stock setup the wire is pink anyway.....but that is full 12 volts/system operating voltage, and it heats up the springs in the carb to pull off the choke as the engine heats up.....after doing that, I suggest you try doing what I said above, to correct any mis adjustments....you can get an idea how its working by doing that anyway....

1st of all...thank you Gene...i will try that... :)
OH...OK...12 VOLTS...DAH! LOL
i am wired into the battery side of the distributor...is that OK?
