When doing a body lift, how far up do you have to lift the body for the rolling chassis to be rolled out from under it. I am trying to see if I have enough room to do this in my garage after I set up my lifting A-frame. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

I used an engine hoist and two large cargo straps looped through a short sling, in a standard height garage. As I remember we lifted it about 18" with the doors off and almost everything removed from the engine bay.

Is your engine still in? If not I think the highest point on the frame is the gas tank. Measure up and see how much room you need.

From the ground to the top of the tank is about 36in. The floor pans need to be that high to roll the chassis under the body.

I lifted the body, and rolled the chassis out backwards from the body. Doing this way, the floor pans do not have to clear the tank. What does have to clear is the front wheel wells over the front tires. I would measure the height from the garage floor to the top of the front tire (fully inflated), then measure from the floor to the bottom body just behind the front tire (the rear of the wheel well in front of the vent/grill on the side of the car). Take the height of the tire, then subtract the height of the body panel, and that would give you the minimum the body has to go up. I would add an extra 4-5 inches for the body being lifted not quite level.

Please note that this assumes the engine and tranny are already out.

Also if you run out of clearance during the lift, deflate the tires, as that is good for another 3" or so...
