Some probs just don't go away easy!
For the past couple of months my brakes have been wierder than normal :U
For the first second after touching the pedal, the steering wheel darts to the right. That's the only time you feel it - for as long as the foot is on the pedal after that first second there is no pull.
So today was a slow day at the shop ... I took advantage of the empty rack and pulled the rotors and calipers off. Rotors mic'd OK so I machine them and pack the wheel bearings. I replaced the calipers with same type, SS piston reman units. Absolutely no change. It was a complete waste of time and money as the car stops exactly as it did!
Now I'm wondering if it isn't a hose, or a REAR caliper. Just call me frustrated and MAD
Sunday is the girlfriend's Bday and I promised her a long trip up the coast. It's gonna be a loooooooooong drive with wierd brakes! :smash: :nonod:

Last sunday morning I was half awake watching "The Two Guys Garage" they were doing a brake job on some kind of SUV. I vaguely remember then mentioning "darting" be caused by something. I missed it, I woke up then since my truck has the same problem, no obivous problems with rotors, calipers or pads.
I know they mentioned that bad brake fluid could cause problems, and I know they mentioned hoses being important. But I missed the key clue about what caused darting.
Maybe it is wornout hoses.

I'm sure you figured the left front caliper is kind of slow here. And with new calipers on front the problem should be upstream. I did have a bad proportioning block on my '74 that wouldn't stop leaking. That driver’s side brake line should be the easiest to replace if needed.

On the other hand, if it is a bad rear caliper or line, the car would act wierd then too. Heck I dunno but it is frustrating. :hat

That was exactly how mine was ... I replaced the front hoses and that fixed it. Here is a quick test ... After you apply the brake.. carefully feel for a slight pull in the other direction at the moment you release the brake. It may not be as noticable but if you feel that at all then the hose is expaning under pressure, resulting in slower application of that caliper hence the pull to the opposite side. Now when you let off the brake, the hose acts like a pressurized balloon and won't release as quickl resulting in the rebound pull if you will.

How is all your steering/suspension parts/bushings? I get the same feeling with mine and I can't help but think it is at least caused in part by the old rotted bushings.
