Which carb to buy
Well, my vette has been running like crap, so I took it in for a friend of mine to work on(I trust him he has taken care of weird problems for me before.)
He told me that my stock qjet has seen better days and recommended that I replace it. I have an Edelbrock perfomer intake on the motor.
Since I am totally clueless about carbs, what questions should I be asking?
Do I need to get an Edelbrock carb or is there something better out there.
The vette is a 79 L-82, GM crate motor, the intake, and a comp cam(268h I think) and headers.
Thanks in advance,
Robby

no experience with a qjet but have both a Holley 750 dp mech and an Edel Performer 750 dp mech. The Holley is much better at the higher rpms 5700+ but down in the bottom range where I do most of my driving I am very happy with Edel. I just bolted it on right out of the box. I did have a problem with both Holley's that I have run with leaking and they do have to be tended to more often, btw I'm running them on a 383 stroker.

I've got the Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS 650 carb and without a doubt it's the best damn carb I've ever owned. I bolted it on and it ran perfect right out of the box and I haven't touched it yet. I start the car and pull away like I have fuel injection.

I have an Edelbrock Performer Series carb(650)--been on the car for 2 yrs now and have not had to even touch it--and performs like a trooper! I think it cost me around $200 back then- what a deal! Get it or one of them--you can't beat the reliability and performance! :D

If your intake is for a qjet you may have to use a special spacer with the correct openings in it in order to go from a spread bore to a square bore carb. Be sure you have enough hood clearance to do this. I ran into trouble with my 71 because of it although I believe a 79 has more clearance.
