Re: Should I sell my TPI and get a BB? (Budman78)
IMO - The best bang for the buck is the large CI. small blocks. If you remember Monty - which was an extreme case made nearly 700 hp and 600 foot pounds of TQ out of a 427 ci Dart block.
Those 415 - 427 ci small blocks in the milder states that only make 500 hp are making mid 11 second runs. What more could you want?:)

Get a stroker and LT1 retro intake for your current set up. The tpi while not support big horse numbers like the LT1 intake can. This is the route I am going.

I thought that an lt1 was reverse flow so you can't use it or something to that effect

You can use the intake with some modifications. A guy sells them premoded for about $400 at www.lt1intake.com I have one on my Formula. Here is a pic of one, notice the dist in the back of the intake, LT1's do not have dist:

YES!!! Budman78, if my '82 (Cross-Fire/700R4/2.87:1) wasn't in as-delivered condition (see sig), and there-fore still 'worth-something', there'd be a hopped-up ZZ502 between the fenders now, backed by a THM400 & 4.11 gears. By the time you build a big-cube SBC (415-421-427-454), with a bottom-end capable of making 600 HP without fear of coming home-on-the-hook' (splayed caps, after-market/high-dollar block, billet crank, H/D rods, custom pistons, small-base circle cam, etc.), you'll have MUCH more invested than swapping-over (water-pump, headers, eytc.) to the Rat. You won't need higher compression in the Rat to make what REALLY accelerates your car; TORQUE!!! It'll be less tempermental, too (instead of 'winding-up', it'll 'GRUNT'!), AND you'll have a motor that is 'too-big for NHRA Pro-Stock'!!! How many Corvette owners can say THAT??? :yesnod:
P.S.: as I've stated before, on Easter, I saw a guy with a ZZ502/THM400/'on-sale' converter/3.90-gears/slicks run 12.03 @ 109 MPH, on pump-gas, shifting @ 5300 RPM. I talked to him in the pits following his 2nd run (broke the rear-end on launch!!!), and I believe it was bone-stock, outta the box (crate?). Think you can run THOSE kinda numbers with a streetable SBC?

If you want a cruiser with that BB sound and gobs of torque. If you want something that you drive often, somewhat economical, and strong go the L98, LT1, LS1 route.

Guess if you don't mind going faster, you could try this guys combo:

A 383 with modified tpi will produce numbers in the driving range near a BB for less $ and a lot less weight.
Remember that changing to a BB will entail different brackets for all accessories and exhaust manifolds and headers. Due to the extra weight, you will probably end up making changes to your suspension as well.

Re: Should I sell my TPI and get a BB? (Brettmc)
I went with the stroker over the BB for the weight savings and driveability. I get 22 mpg and have run a 13 flat (only been to the strip twice). I know with better tires I'll easily be mid 12's and with nitrous I'll be deep in the 11's. I have jsut over 400 ft. lb. of torque at the rear wheels (only 290 HP at the rears though :(). I'm happy with the setup, but if I had to do it again I'd start with a LS1 block and supercharge it. Probably wouldn't have costs TOO much more.
